Enter the memory ↓In Colobane Thiawlène, the memory of Imam Aliou NDOYE is more than a biography. It lives through the Daara, the mosque, transmitted gestures, educated families and generations that continue the work.
Born in Ndayane. Family and archival sources place his birth in the late nineteenth century.
Qur’anic studies and advanced Islamic learning. A press archive presents him as one of the early disciples of El Hadj Malick Sy.
He settles in Rufisque, in Colobane II Sud, establishes a Daara and becomes the first Imam of the neighbourhood mosque.
A place of learning, inner formation, community deliberation and solidarity grows around his teaching.
Passing of Imam Aliou NDOYE. His memory remains deeply rooted in Colobane Thiawlène and the religious institution he helped establish.
His descendants, students, elders, residents and new generations of the Daara carry the legacy forward.


The Daara welcomes children from different backgrounds. It is a place of religious learning, discipline, respect, inner formation and intergenerational transmission. Historic and contemporary images show this continuity.

The Colobane Thiawlène mosque is a place of prayer, counsel and solidarity. Construction archives allow its evolution to be told without erasing the memory of the first builders.
Family accounts connect religious history with the history of the neighbourhood: railway workers, artisans, farmers, professionals, intellectuals and workers from the former BATA and ICOTAF factories form a shared memory linking sacred knowledge, school, work and dignity.
The legacy also unfolds as a lineage of service, education and responsibility.

Family memory also reaches back to Ahmadou Lamine NDOYE, father of Imam Aliou NDOYE. His mausoleum in Ndayane, between lagoon and sea, remains a place of family remembrance.

Under the current responsibility of Imam Abdoul Aziz NDOYE, the mosque and the Daara continue their mission of teaching, religious guidance and transmission, connecting inherited values with new generations.
Historic photographs, mosque construction records, press clippings, portraits, family documents and Daara images form an archive of lived memory and transmission.
